One year prior to Sochi Olympic Games, militants committed 32 explosions

According to the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot", during the "pre-Olympic" year from February 12, 2013, till December 29, 2013, 32 explosions were committed in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that many experts have repeatedly pointed out to the threat of possible terror acts committed by extremists and aimed at visitors and participants of the 2014 Olympic Games. On February 7, 2014, the opening ceremony of the XXII Winter Olympic Games will be held in Sochi.

Out of 32 explosions, investigators classified six incidents as terror acts: the explosion, which occurred on February 14 in Khasavyurt at the checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS); the explosion committed on May 20 near the building of the Bailiff Service in Makhachkala; the explosion committed on September 23 in the Dagestani village of Khuchni near the ROVD (District Interior Division); the explosion, which occurred on September 16 near the building of the Sunzha ROVD in Chechnya; the explosion committed on October 21 in the bus in Volgograd; the explosion committed on December 29 at the railway station in Volgograd.

In 2011, Dokku Umarov claimed responsibility for the terror act at the Moscow "Domodedovo" Airport and stated considering Russian civilians as his enemies. On February 2, 2012, he ordered his subordinates to avoid attacks on civilian objects, since Russia faced the processes of civil protests. In July 2013, Dokku Umarov called off the moratorium on committing terror acts against the civilian population of Russia and stated the need to disrupt the Olympic Games in Sochi.
