Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine removes charges of plotting attempt on Putin from Osmaev

The Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine has excluded two articles dealing with terrorism from the indictment of Adam Osmaev, a native of Grozny, accused of an attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Adam Osmaev was put by Russian authorities on the international wanted list on suspicion of preparing terror acts. He was detained in Odessa on February 4, 2012.

According to Russian law enforcers, Osmaev was preparing an attempt on Putin. Osmaev denies his guilt; and his case is considered by the Primorsky District Court of Odessa.

The removal of two articles from the indictment in Osmaev's case was announced during the court session held on October 31.

The excluded articles are Nos. 258 and 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Creating of and participation in a terrorist organization" and "Preparing an attempt on a statesman"), the "Interfax-Ukraine" reports referring to the lawyer Olga Chertok.

The removal of terrorism charges from Osmaev may allow his defence to demand to revise his freedom restriction measure, the portal "Vesti-Ukraine" reports.

Full text of the article is available on the Russian page of 24/7 Internet agency ‘Caucasian Knot’.
