In Armenia, lawyers are on strike against working methods of the CoC

The strike of Armenian lawyers launched on Monday is now 201 persons strong. The strike will continue till June 11.

Let us remind you that Armenian lawyers had planned in advance their two-day strike on June 10 and 11 in protest against the work methods of the Court of Cassation (CoC), in which they see arbitrariness. The aim of the strike is to draw the attention of all branches of power to unacceptable practices of the Armenian CoC, including the use of "double standards", said the lawyer Sona Margaryan.

The striking lawyers hope that steps will be taken to change the order of considering cassation appeals, Aik Alumyan, a Bar member, said on Monday at the roundtable on the problems of the judicial system, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

He reminded that June 11 marks exactly one year after a similar strike of lawyers against the working methods of the CoC.

Over the year nothing has changed in the way the CoC works; it continues applying the principle of "double standards" in considering appeals, said Liparit Simonyan, another striker and a Bar member.

The CoC has not commented on the actions and statements of lawyers.
