Chechnya is ahead of Dagestan by number of victims in Quarter 4 of 2014

In Quarter 4 of 2014, the number of victims of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus has increased by 118% compared with Quarter 3. In October-December, 168 people were killed and wounded there; while in July-September, the figure was 77. In Quarter 4, Chechnya was ahead of Dagestan in the number of victims. These are the findings of the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In Quarter 4 of 2014, in Northern Caucasus, at least 101 people perished; and at least other 67 persons were wounded. The list of casualties includes 70 persons, involved, according to law enforcement bodies, in militants' activities, 26 power agents and five civilians.

Besides, 65 law enforcers, one civilian and one alleged member of an armed underground were wounded.

In Quarter 4 of 2014, the "hottest spot" of Northern Caucasus was Chechnya. While during the whole Quarter 3, in the republic, only one person was killed – suspected of involvement in the activities of illegal armed formations (IAFs), in Quarter 4 of 2014, at least 95 people fell victim to the conflict in Chechnya. Of these, 41 persons perished; and 54 others were wounded. The death toll includes two civilians, 20 power agents and 19 suspected IAF members. The list of wounded persons includes 43 power agents and one suspected militant.

In Quarter 4 2014, Dagestan saw 29% less victims than in Quarter 3. In October-December, at least 44 people were killed and wounded there – 40 were killed and four others wounded. The death toll included two civilians, three power agents and 35 persons, involved, according to the police, in the activities of the armed underground. The list of wounded persons included one civilian and three power agents.

In July-September 2014, this republic saw at least 62 victims of the armed conflict, of whom 48 persons were killed and 14 others were wounded. The then death toll included 10 civilians, seven law enforcers and 31 militants. Among the wounded ones, there were two civilians and 12 power agents.

In Quarter 4, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) saw at least 23 victims, including 16 casualties and seven wounded persons.

In Ingushetia, during the last three months of 2014, at least six people suffered: four of them were killed and two others were wounded.

In October, November and December 2014, there were no victims of the armed conflict in Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory.
